What
will your recovery and healing period be like?
Swelling
lasts for about 5 days and is the worst 2 to 3 days after surgery. There
is little to no pain after surgery. Depending on the technique used in
your surgery the last suture will be removed at 6 to 7 days after surgery. Bruising
is always a possibility but is infrequent and happens most often with lower
eyelid surgery. Bruising will resolve in 3 to 5 days.
Most
surgeries require a minimum healing time of 48 hours before you can return
to exercise and other strenuous activities. Many patients are
able to begin working from home in a few days. You should have a
ride home the day of surgery. After the last suture is removed you can
return to wearing makeup and going out socially. In the Asian eyelid
surgery patient the incision line is typically not noticeable after
approximately two weeks.
What is the healing for a suture-only
Asian Eyelid Surgery?
If
you have a suture-only technique performed to create a crease or double eyelid
your healing time is greatly decreased. Typically
there is mild swelling that is not very noticeable that lasts for 2 to 3
days. You can return to work and regular
activities within 12 to 24 hours. Dr.
Lay recommends you avoid using contact lenses for 72 hours and avoid and
contact sports for 72 hours. There are
no sutures to remove and you look great in less than a few days.
How
is the surgery performed?
Upper and lower
eyelid surgeries are performed in a variety of ways depending on the anatomy of
a patient, the skin quality, and what the patient's goals are. A simple
Asian double eyelid procedure can be performed with sutures alone or minimal
skin removal. Other patients have more fat behind the eyelids and excess
skin that requires removal. Your personalized surgery can be explained to you
in full detail during a consultation with Dr. Lay.
